Background
The Lighting Laboratory was founded in the year 2000 with the idea of being an open venue for education, discussion, experiment and research on light and lighting.
The international profile of the Laboratory creates a platform for in-depth discussion and understanding of culturally-based views and values, both towards practice and research on lighting design.
Including fundamental issues as energy, sustainability, lighting affects on humans, design development and new technologies, searching for the understanding of the significance of light and lighting in our daily lives. It comprises light, both natural and artificial, within such worlds as those of architecture and design, technology and health.
The Lighting Laboratory is in the academic frontline; open to new thoughts, ideas and collaborations while working in an international network, crossing borders and embracing numerous scientific spheres.
The Lighting Laboratory is situated at KTH STH, Haninge, 20 minutes by commuter train from Stockholm’s Central Station.
Philosophy
The Philosophy of the Lighting Laboratory is centred around the topic of Architectural Lighting Design.
This mankind centred philosophy is based on the knowledge of:

Structure
The Lighting Laboratory is structured by:
Education with 2 master programmes (1 year course and 2 years course) and master clases where knowledge is the driver
Research where the topics of human & health, natural light, sustainability and technology are being addressed, such research is a support knowldege for the education and combines interdisciplinary with the
Collaboration with partner institutions where the exchange of knowledge and resorces is the motor of a multidisciplinary approach aiming to have
Cooperation with industry where speciphic research is developed supporting each other.
Interface with society is a key point where all knowledge gained by the education, research and collaboration with industry can be addressed back to society expanding the possibilities in conection with the publicby by means of workshops, Symposiums and Index projects.
All this actions revolve around the lighting laboratory´s mankind centred philosophy.
