Beskrivning
Reality Studio is an educational platform for joint knowledge production between the universities; Maseno University and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Kenya and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, in collaboration with other organisations, associations and authorities in both countries.
Our students have backgrounds in design, architecture, urban design and planning. All coming together to challenge and be challenged in the african context.
The visionary and long-term goal of the studio is to increase health and enrich quality of everyday life. The goal of the studio is to find new design and planning strategies for urban areas, villages, neighbourhoods, built environment and architectural conservation and transformation. Sustainable development is a global issue which needs to be managed with care in each local situation. Therefore, each site which is studied is in need of careful analysis and locally specific solutions for its future development. But these sites also face problems that they have in common with each other and with many other cities of the world such as threatened cultural identity and increased tourism, population growth and poverty, urban expansion, pressure on resources, climate change, declining markets and growing slums.
